South Australian 100% Aboriginal owned and operated family business Bookabee Australia, has been awarded the 2015 SA National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Aboriginal
Business of the Year award.
The Aboriginal business, in its 11th year of operation is owned and run by Directors Ms Lele Sanderson and Mr Haydyn Bromley who today said they are heartened to have been recognised and pleased to receive the acknowledgement and support of the 2015 SA NAIDOC Committee.
Bookabee Australia which is also an SA Tourism Hall of Fame member, works in three distinct fields – Cultural Consultancy Services, Tourism and Australian Native foods distribution.
“The wide variety of work Lele and I are involved in makes every day an interesting one,” said Mr Bromley. “Our tourism products include half and full day Cultural experiences here in Adelaide where our main focus is the Botanic Gardens and the SA Museum.”
Clientèle come from countries including France, Germany, Sweden, Canada and the US. “Our international tour guests appreciate
the opportunity to interact and learn from an Aboriginal person with experience and skills in Cultural tourism,” said Ms Sanderson.
Bookabee also provides 3 – 5 day ‘On Country’ Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity Training and Development opportunities based
in the Flinders Ranges. “We travel and stay in the Flinders near significant cultural sites which provide the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience in a culturally safe manner ‘on country’’ explained Bromley.
“Our training is sought after and we provide our services to two universities, government departments, along with a host of Non-Government Organisations. We tailor our training to suit the needs of the individual organisations.
“We are grateful for the acknowledgement from the 2015 NAIDOC Committee and appreciate the opportunity to share our experience with the wider community of South Australia,” he said.
In addition, Bookabee Australia is the distributor for Outback Pride Australian Native Foods, a range of foods including jams, sauces, spices, relishes and chutneys.
